elderly parents
designLSD@comcast.netLayne Strickler
Good morning, I am looking for recommendations to address an increasingly difficult situation regarding both my parents currently living in their own home. They are life-long Lebanon County residents. My father (84.5 years) has a history of vascular health issues and has been presenting signs of dementia and short-term memory impairment. He is becoming more and more verbally hostile to my mother (81 years) who also has a number of health issues requiring regular monitoring, medication, etc. As of now they are both relatively independent and active but I am noticing a gradual decline in quality of lifestyle and home environment due to my father’s behavior and refusal to seek further treatment or mental counseling as recommended by geriatric MDs at the Lebanon VA hospital. Both parents are quite adamant about remaining in their home, however, I’m very concerned that their deteriorating relationship, physical needs and aging in general will jeopardize their wishes in both the near and short term. My wife and I try to offer as much help as possible (we both have full-time professional jobs) but feel rather helpless at this point as to where to go, or what to do next in everyone’s best interest. It is my hope that your agency can offer some guidance or suggestions as to how we can best forward. I realize that a more detailed summary of my parents’ living situation, financial status, health history, etc. may be needed for a more accurate assessment of their situation. Please feel free to contact me by phone at 610-693-6689. Thank you for your time. Layne Strickler
