FALLS PREVENTION DESERVES YOUR ATTENTION!

  • Falls are the most common cause of injury for older adults.
  • One out of 3 people over the age of 65 fall at least once each year.
  • Almost half of the people who enter nursing homes do so because of a fall.
  • Most falls occur in people’s own homes as they do their regular daily activities.

Immunization Awareness

It is always important for all adults to get vaccines to protect them from illnesses. Immunization is especially important for adults 60 and older, particularly those with a chronic condition or disease. Immunizations are safe and help older adults stay healthy.

This observance was intended to bring awareness about the importance of getting the proper immunizations to prevent illnesses. To find vaccine providers in your community, use the following webpage (the search is in the middle of this page (blue)): http://www.flu.gov/prevention-vaccination/vaccination/index.html.  Enter in your zipcode and press 'Go'.  Also, here are couple articles stressing the importance of getting vaccinated:

Band Together
NEW MEMBERS WELCOME

Lebanon County Area Agency on Aging is partnering with Penn State Hershey Medical Center to offer a free strength training program to participants 50 years of age & over. The program is designed to build strength and function in a social and fun setting. Participants tell us that “it is fun being with others during the exercise time” and “carrying packages and groceries from the store is much easier now”. 

Classes are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:45 PM to 5:30 PM @ Maple Street Senior Community Center, 710 Maple Street, Lebanon, PA and are free of charge.  Click here for all class locations

Many Band Together Classes have added balancing exercises to the resistance exercises.

Lebanon’s Maple Street Center classes have included:

  • Balancing on one leg
  • Heel to toe walking

Both exercises have helped participants increase their balancing ability.
