The criminal justice system can be a confusing and frustrating process for victims and witnesses. The Victim/Witness Program includes a Victim/Witness Coordinator, three (3) victim witness service provider, and an Administrative Assistant. The Program helps victims and witnesses work their way through the system.
Victims have the right:
To be notified of court proceedings
To have plea input
To provide a victim impact statement to the court
To request restitution or victim's compensation
To be accompanied to all court proceedings by an advocate
The Victim/Witness program also provides community education and is on call 24 hours per day, seven (7) days per week to provide immediate assistance to victims of crimes.
VICTIMS OF JUVENILE OFFENSES PROGRAM
The proceedings and language used in juvenile prosecution are often very confusing to victims who are unfamiliar with the process. Juvenile prosecution also moves at a much faster pace than the adult system. In addition to explaining the process and language of the juvenile criminal justice system, the Juvenile Offenses Victim Service Provider provides victims with the same services that the Victim/Witness program provides to the victims of adult offenses. The Juvenile Offenses Victim Service Provider works in conjunction with the Juvenile Prosecutor and the Juvenile Probation Department.
